Reflections of Myself

Yeah, poncy title but I didn't wanna call it "Self Portraits 2" which is basically what this is; self portraits but done with objects other than mirrors!

Self Portraits

I haven't blogged much recently, but have been drawing an awful lot so over the coming days will be posting some themed blogs on what I've been up to in my sketchbook.
Today is self portraits. If I've learned anything it's that I should stop holding the mirror down low, cause I'm giving myself a double chin! It was also pointed out that I tend to frown in these, but we put that down to concentration.

Finally!

Today, along with Barbara, I took myself off to a life drawing class. This is something I've been wanting to do since I don't know when! I missed out on life drawing at school, I think I got ME around the time that would've happened. So in a way, tonight was a gift to my fifteen year old self!

Forgive the dirty converse, I just wanted to give a sense of scale. It's also a long time since I've worked at this size. I don't think I'm going to find my A5 sketchbook intimidating again!
Had a brilliant time tonight. I knew doing this would probably help me to see better, but I didn't know I was going to learn a whole new way of seeing.
Off to bed now, all that creativity has made me sleepy!

Observing, looking ,seeing

Well despite everything that's gone recently, or perhaps because of, I've been trying to connect with my sketchbook to stay sane! The fact that I'm nearly at the end of this one is giving me a bit of a creative spurt; "If I finish this sketchbook, I can start a shiny new one - yippee!"

Anyway this piece, is just lots of faces from last sunday's Observer. Really had fun doing this page.

Becktacular

What's going on? I don't blog or draw for weeks on end, then suddenly 2 blogs in as mainly days? Madness, utter madness!


This is a pic of my lovely friend Becky, from when we went out to Twenties Judder. What I love about this pic, and thought would make it interesting to draw, is that it's Bex, but not. It's got the cheeky fun loving side and the bracelets, but not the ginger hair that she probably gets defined by. I thought it would be cool to draw Bex, without that defining feature and see if she was still definably her.

Paltry Offerings

This is the sum of my efforts drawingwise for Oct/Nov. This is something I'm determined to recommit to in the coming weeks, as I think it'll help preserve my sanity as Chrimble marches on towards us and the stressometer gets turned up to eleven!

Two of Antnee from last weekend, I thought we should have a portrait party although I dont know where Antnee's sketchbook is so I can't show you the ones of me! I didn't realise I'm made him look quite so angry at the time! I love how drawing can really connect you to that particular moment too - these pics are always gonna remind me of the sunday afternoon we sat and drew together listening to AIOTM oh and the policeman who was randomly staring in at us!



And finally, this is one of the v. cool toys Krist and J9 sent me for my birthday, best described as a wingheaded toadstool baby I think!
That's all for now, hopefully there'll be much more sketch blogging over the coming weeks, I've just ordered a cartload of photo's from holidays/weddings/judder so -fingers crossed - they'll kickstart some inspiration!

Holiday Horse

Well, I've been really bad at keeping up with my drawing recently, and even worse at blogging about it - but here's a pic I did on holiday. I always hopefully pack my drawing book in the suitcase everytime I go away, and as often as not bring it home just as pristine as when we we left, so then fact I got one drawing done this time is an achievement! This is the ceramic horse who sat in our Tower window, he was electric blue and utterly fab - if only I'd taken my paints with me!
